Popular Questions About Second Hand Show Saddles

Showing and Working Hunter (WH) saddles can sometimes very similar in their straight cut appearance however the main differences tend to be in what they offer for the rider. Showing saddles tend to have small, if any, discreet knee rolls so they won’t be seen in the show ring. Working hunter saddles however can vary drastically some are fairly straight cut, like showing saddles, yet some can be very forward cut like jumping saddles for higher level Working Hunter classes. WH saddles tend to have more support for the rider by way of knee rolls, calf blocks and slightly deeper seated.

This depends entirely on the need of the horse and rider. No one saddle is better than the next the only comparable features are for what the horse and rider’s needs are.

Yes, you can dressage in pretty much any saddle you want or have.

Yes, if you feel secure enough you can jump in any saddle.

This depends on the shape and width of your horse. We have found the native/cob types do tend to need a wider set tree with a lower head to reduce the chance of rolling. Some native and cob types have flatter back profiles, wither to croup, whereas some have a curved profile and can be very tricky to fit. We tend to advice a professional opinion to advise which saddle to buy or trial. We offer a full Saddle fitting and advice service:
